How often do you hear the words, "What am I supposed to be doing?"? Maybe they are your words as you seek direction in your life, or maybe they are those of someone coming to you for advice. There is such a strong call within us to do what Spirit wants us to do, and to fulfill what we destined ourselves to do in this lifetime. There is frequently a sense of urgency with this feeling, born from an underlying knowing that these are very important times and we have much to do. Are we doing the right thing? Are we doing everything that we could be doing? What does God want us to do? What's the plan? What's our part in the big picture?

The question comes from a yearning to live our lives meaningfully and usefully, beyond the mundane and superficial that seem to want to engulf us. Yet the question contains the assumption that God is distant and external. As if God is not watching and guiding our every move. As if God is not speaking to us from within. As if the source of our yearning is not from the heart of God.

There is nothing that we can do that is outside of God's knowing and understanding. There is nothing that we can do that God does not have a hand in. There is not a God outside of us who is telling us what we should do or should not do. There is only the hand of God upon us in every breath, in every step, in every thought, in every glance and every movement.

Without a God telling us what we should be doing, we are left with the doing, the thinking and the being. As God encompasses both right and wrong, then asking if we are doing the right thing becomes irrelevant. We are being guided, seen and adored through every action and every moment. We do not necessarily need to understand the big picture. In fact, if we waited until we did, it could be quite a wait! How big a picture can we take on?

In these accelerated times, we are learning to follow divine guidance and be nimble on our feet. This is our navigational tool, and we are all learning to be more adept. We are seeing the signs, noticing the synchronicities, listening to our inner voices, honing our sensitivities, taking leaps of faith and paying attention to the cry from within. When we ask, "What should I be doing?" we are seeking external confirmation for what we already know within. Maybe we don't believe it, or don't trust ourselves or haven't quite articulated it to ourselves. We already know the answer. If we don't consciously know it, we can trust that we will get clear when the time is right.

If there is no external source separate from ourselves telling us what to do, then how do we proceed? What remains is taking the next step. And then the next and then the next and the next. We do what is there to be done and feels authentic. We quieten ourselves. We ask for guidance in small and big matters, and listen to the voice within. If we take a step that feels it doesn't serve us, then we will be shown how to make a course correction.

Step by step we are whittled down, until we come to a place of complete surrender. Our personal wishes dissolve into Divine Will. The illusion of choice vanishes, and what is left is the playing out of the cosmic dance. When unsure what to do next, go listen to the wind.
